'Web design' tops list of most commonly-searched keywords on Europe's biggest online business marketplace. 'Internet marketing' climbs 19 places in past quarter.

Increasing numbers of small businesses are choosing to invest in developing their most important marketing tool – their websites, suggests PeoplePerHour.com's founder.

PeoplePerHour.com recently unveiled the top 10 of the one million searches conducted on the site per month. By a considerable distance, 'web design' is the most searched business service on the site.

The popularity of 'web design' has accelerated in the past three months, reflecting the increasingly pivotal role digital marketing is playing in UK small businesses. This is supported by the fact that the fastest climber in the past quarter was 'internet marketing', which rose 19 places to ninth in the overall table.

"Small businesses are now feeling confident enough to implement long-term marketing strategies. In many cases, this evidently begins with a website overhaul."

It is believed the dramatic rise in demand for internet marketing services highlights the growing value of digital disciplines amongst small businesses. “Internet marketing was once the preserve of the most progressive, forward-thinking businesses.
