English tourism up 40% - is your business benefiting?
VisitEngland have released figures showing that holidays taken in England by UK residents were up by 40% this July compared to last July.
This represents a huge increase amounting to almost 2 million more trips and 7.2 million extra nights compared to July 2008 in one of the key months of the year for businesses involved with the industry.
Despite the wettest July since 1914, residents shunned overseas travel, with outbound trips dropping by 17% for the year to the end of July. VisitEngland said that domestic tourism bookings for 2010 and 2011 are also up, but operators in the business travel market have continued to suffer because of the effects of the recession.
